Left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav was left out of the final squad for the first Test against England at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. Nadeem, who has only one Test experience, was included in the final squad by Team India in the final minutes. All-rounder Akshar Patel has been ruled out of the team due to a knee injury.
However Nadeem did not live up to expectations on the Chepauk pitch. Nadeem, who made 44 overs in the first innings, took two wickets for 167 runs with a 3.80 economy. The left-arm spinner then went on to bowl 15 overs in the second innings, taking two wickets for 66 runs with a 4.40 economy. Nadeem was ducked in both the innings in batting. And when the reporter asked about Nadeem – “Are you worried about taking Nadeem into the final team in place of Kuldeep Yadav?
Virat Kohli replied -“No, I’m not worried about the final team selection. With two off-spinners in the squad in the form of Ashwin and Washington Sunder, Kuldeep Yadav cannot be included in the squad. Because, Kuldeep Yadav also bowls balls like an off spinner. With that, we took Nadeem into the team for variety in the bowling team. When it comes to team combinations there is no room for worry, ”said Virat Kohli.
